6 Veggies That Are Packed with Protein

As if there wasn’t already reason enough to eat your veggies, they’re also a great source of protein. Well, certain ones are. Us guys thrive on protein and, when we become dads, we sometimes let our diets go down the drain in favor of whatever the kids are eating, i.e.: chicken nuggets, fries, pizza, every kind of soup on the planet, but not veggies. Oh, heaven forbid you try and feed them veggies.
So, you have to be sneaky about it. I mean, you want your veggies, but they should be getting them, too. Right? Sneaking them into delicious meals, that you know they like, can help. And this list of protein packed vegetables will keep Dad happy, too.

1. Spinach

.

Spinach is considered a super food and is packed with minerals, essential vitamins, and all that good stuff doctors say we should be getting. And with 6 grams of protein in every cup of spinach, how can you go wrong? I toss this into smoothies, stir fries, pastas, etc. and they can never tell.

2. Broccoli

.

Broccoli is a tricky one to hide because they can smell it. But it’s so darn good for the family. Find clever ways to sneak this into foods so everyone can benefit. Just a single cup of broccoli holds 2.6 grams of protein and your entire daily recommended vitamin C and K.

3. Green Peas

.

These green vegetables are seriously chock full of good stuff. For starters, in just one cup you have 9 grams of protein and almost 6 grams of fiber. They are also an excellent source of vitamins like A and C, as well as thiamin and iron.

4. Asparagus

.

You may have a hard time getting the kids to eat these, but you can always resort to wrapping in bacon. You’re almost guaranteed to get zero complaints. They’re one of those great roasted vegetables, too. But with 2.5 grams of protein in every 100 grams of asparagus, you may wan to save them all for yourself anyways.

5. Pumpkin Seeds

.

Pumpkins seeds are usually easier to convince the kids to eat. They’re fun to harvest and they can get involved in baking them. Make it fun and everyone can benefit from the 5 grams of protein in every ounce of seeds. To out that into perspective, that’s more than a single egg.

6. Bean Sprouts

.

Make it fun and have family Asian night! Make a stir fry or try your hand at Pad Thai. Bean sprouts are an awesome addition for these types of dishes. And with over 2.5 grams of protein in every cup, why not? Oh, and dads? Sprouts are also pack with something called lecithin, which reduces cholesterol.

  • After having our newborn I am finally starting to hit the gym again and I found this article very helpful, I was going g to start incorporating protein powder in to my diet; however, Im going to delay that and start with these veggies! Natural is so much better.
